On December 2, 2023 at 8:00 pm, Michael Korstick will perform a piano recital in the Chamber Music Hall of the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. The concert commemorates the 250th birthday of the This year marks the 100th birthday of Joseph Woelfl, Beethoven’s friend and rival in equal measure.
On the occasion of the International Woelfl Symposium in Bonn, Michael Korstick presents the relationship between the two most famous piano virtuosos of their time in his piano recital: “Being able to compare Beethoven and Woelfl, two colleagues of almost the same age, is an exciting opportunity. In particular, the juxtaposition of Beethoven’s op. 13 and Woelfl’s sonata in the same key makes for fascinating observations, especially as the two final movements begin with the same motif! Beethoven’s last sonata op. 111 shows the tremendous development that Beethoven’s work underwent in the following two decades, a development that Woelfl was denied due to his early death.”
